Digital Primitives in DeFi

This Fundamentals of DeFi & Primitives course will introduce students to the world of digital primitives and their role in decentralized finance (DeFi). Through a combination of lectures, hands-on exercises, and real-world examples, students will learn about key DeFi protocols, smart contract development, token standards, decentralized exchanges, lending and borrowing, and more advanced topics in DeFi. By the end of the course, students will have a strong understanding of the current state of DeFi and its potential to revolutionize the financial industry.

Fundamentals of DeFi & Primitives Course Objectives:

  • Understand the basics of decentralized finance (DeFi) and its current state
  • Learn about digital primitives and their role in DeFi
  • Gain a solid understanding of key DeFi protocols and their uses
  • Learn how to create and interact with smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain
  • Understand the different token standards and their use cases in DeFi
  • Learn how to trade tokens on a decentralized exchange
  • Understand decentralized lending and borrowing protocols
  • Learn about more advanced DeFi protocols and use cases
  • Understand the current challenges and future developments in DeFi
  • Develop the ability to analyze and evaluate real-world DeFi projects.

1: Introduction to Digital Primitives in DeFi

  • Overview of DeFi and its current state
  • Introduction to digital primitives and their role in DeFi
  • What are specific digital primitives in DeFi
  • What digital primitives are used in Lending and Borrowing
  • What are the 4 primary primitives of DeFi
  • Overview of key DeFi protocols and their uses

2: Ethereum and Smart Contracts

  • Overview of Ethereum and its role in DeFi
  • Introduction to smart contracts 
  • Smart Contracts and their use cases in DeFi

3: Tokens and Token Standards

  • Overview of different token standards, such as ERC-20 and ERC-721
  • Use cases for tokens in DeFi, including stablecoins and security tokens

4: Decentralized Exchanges

  • Overview of decentralized exchanges 
  • Decentralized exchanges and their advantages over centralized exchanges
  • Disadvantages of decentralized exchanges
  • Trading Risks of decentralized exchanges
  • Regulatory and Compliance Risks

5: Lending and Borrowing

  • Overview of decentralized lending and borrowing protocols
  • Top 5 decentralized lending and borrowing protocols
  • Advantages and Disadvantages of each

6: Advanced Topics in DeFi

  • Overview of more advanced DeFi protocols and use cases, such as yield farming and prediction markets
  • Discussion of current challenges and future developments in DeFi

This course provides education toward two Web3 Certification Board (W3CB) Focus Areas Certification Exam Competencies.  Review Certification Focus Areas
